Solution to the Shortcut Virus in USB – Short Cut Files Virus USB

The most common virus now a days is theshortcut virus. When user plugs USB in the computer. The infected computer transfers virus to the USB and make several changes in the USB. All folders in the USB Flash drive/drives are converted into shortcuticons.

Solution How to see the files

Don’t worry data is still there it is just hidden. Go to my computer then “Tools” – “Folder Option” –“view” – “Show Hidden File Select HIDE EXTENSION, HIDE OPERATING FILE DESELECT.

Now you can view the files stored in your USB.

Remove short virus from USB via DOS Mode

Go to Start and then click RUN or Window Key + R

Type cmd – Commoad prompt will open

Type attrib -h -r -s /s /d g:\*.*

A Handy Tip   -  Disable Autoplay Always

Note : After following the above instructions, please disable Auto play on all drives go to

Click on Start –> Run –> type gpedit.msc and click on OK.
Double-click on “Computer Configuration” –> Administrative Templates —>
System. Double-click on “Turn autoplay off” option and select the option
“Enabled” –> Click on OK. Close that window. Now logoff and logon into your account.
Now backup all the data from your flash drive and format it

Now your USB Drive is clean, A very important step is to use Microsoft security essentials and keep it updated.
